Code of Conduct

In short: give and expect respect, practice and accept kindness.

The Code of Conduct for MyData 2018 related activities and events

We share and practice these values:

  • Celebration

We actively give thanks and acknowledge others.

We take time to celebrate things done well by ourselves and others.

  • Openness

We are open to ideas from all sources and consciously assume and see value in all contributions.

We work and communicate as openly as possible while respecting others’ right to privacy and confidentiality.

  • Respectfulness

We use only respectful language when dealing with others.

We respect others’ stated boundaries and commit to express our own.

If we feel bad about a situation, we communicate that clearly and respectfully.

  • Communication

We build on what’s said before (“yes”, “and”) and avoid words that close off communication (“no”, “but”).

We ask if something doesn’t make sense to us, as we don’t assume everyone has the same context and priorities as we do.

We encourage everyone around us to listen as much as they speak. We actively make space for others to be heard.

  • Accountability

We are accountable to the community of attendees for our adherence to this code.

We will listen if we are reminded of this code and we have a duty to remind others if we feel they have forgotten.

Contact us to report an incident
If, while at MyData 2018, you are involved in or witness an incident that violates this Code of Conduct, let the organisers know as soon as possible by emailing hello@mydata.org with the heading “Code of conduct violation”. Share as much information as you can to help us make a thorough investigation of the incident. Organisers of MyData 2018 will investigate all incidents reported at an event with discretion and confidentiality.

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated whether by attendees, media, presenters, volunteers, organisers, venue staff, partners, or exhibitors.

Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behaviour is expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behaviour, the conference organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the conference without warning or refund.
