Join the MyData 2018 conference team

We're hiring a Communications & Marketing Lead

Remember Cambridge Analytica & Facebook? Want to change the world so that never happens again? Join the MyData 2018 conference team as a communications and marketing lead!

MyData 2018 is Europe’s leading conference for and by personal data experts. We are the flagship event for the global MyData community, whose goal is to create a fair digital society for all. Held at the legendary Helsinki Hall of Culture (Kulttuuritalo) 29-31 August, the conference spans three days with a programme curated by 30+ international experts, featuring 60+ individual sessions and 130+ presenters, for an audience of 800+ data professionals.

We are currently an international team of six looking for that lucky number seven! We are passionate professionals from diverse backgrounds (and a tiny dog called Boris) and we’re looking for someone who will share our values of openness, co-creation, and accountability, and who will enrich our culture of dreaming big, getting sh*t done, and having fun.

Do you know how to create engaging content that makes people laugh, think, interact, and understand? We are looking to welcome a new team member whose skills include (but are not limited to!) digital and print media strategy and execution, copywriting (English language is mandatory, Finnish language is useful but not necessary), and basic WordPress and image editing (Adobe Photoshop) skills.

As communications and marketing lead, you will be responsible for developing further our communications and marketing strategy for the conference (and related activities) and then executing that strategy, both with the support of the team. You will also liaise with relevant media and handle press inquiries. Additional tasks will depend on your interests, development goals, and skills.

To succeed in this position, you need to be able to work independently and to undertake tasks proactively. We also appreciate a relevant education, a demonstrated understanding of business and corporate communications, and the know-how to reach, measure, and grow specialist audiences.

We offer a dynamic and exciting working environment based at the Open Knowledge Finland office space in the startup hub Maria 01 in Kamppi, Helsinki. You’ll also join an active and diverse global community who live and breathe ethical personal data. Daily working hours are flexible and working remotely is possible. We are a very flat organisation and you will be encouraged to give your input on all the different aspects of organising an international conference.

MyData 2018 is organised jointly by Open Knowledge Finland ry and Aalto University. The communications and marketing lead will be hired to Aalto University and compensation is determined by the university’s pay scale. Work begins early June and will be the equivalent of three months’ full-time work spread over a fixed period of four months until the end of September.

Do you feel like you want to be a part of something great with us? We ask that you submit your application and CV accompanied by a recent sample of writing in English as soon as possible to hello at mydata dot org with the subject line “Communications and marketing lead”. We will begin interviewing candidates during week 22 and the position will be filled as soon as a suitable person is found.
