Gianfranco Cecconi

Data Scientist

Gianfranco Cecconi is a principal with the Insight and Data Consulting practice of Capgemini. He’s a data-driven digital transformation consultant and an advocate for open and ethical technology. After a career as a technologist, in 2013 he decided to focus on researching, promoting and demonstrating the application of alternative models to use data to enable innovation and change organisations in government and businesses, old and new.

In collaboration with Tim Berners-Lee’s Open Data Institute first, and later as the programme manager of the EU’s European Data Portal programme, he developed propositions around open and shared data, crowdsourcing and agile data governance for companies such as Arup, Deloitte, Pfizer, Telefonica, and for European Union member states’ governments. Lately, his work preparing organisations to benefit from the opportunities arising from the introduction of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was featured in the Economist.

Through his pro-bono contribution to DataKind and MyData, Gianfranco has taken data science to social impact nonprofits, and educated citizens and businesses to an ethical and healthy relationship with data. He is the producer for the MyData Podcast , and one of the cross-pollinators who are part of the 2018 conference’s Programme Team.
