How can I get a letter of invitation for a visa?

Please contact hello@mydata.org to get more information. Please note, that we give invitation letters only to ticket holders.

When and where can I collect my Conference Badge?

To avoid queueing on the conference day, you can collect your badge already in the pre-meetings on 28th Aug in Helsinki. Otherwise, doors open at 8am at the conference venue, where you’ll find the registration table.

How can I become a Volunteer?

MyData 2018 conference is very much a collaborative effort and we welcome you as a volunteer aka crew member with pleasure. Please fill out a Volunteer form and join us in one of the weekly Talkoots in Helsinki.

WHERE AND WHEN does MyData 2018 take place?

In Helsinki, Kulttuuritalo (Sturenkatu 4), on August 29th – 31st.

WHY MyData conference at the end of August in Helsinki for a third year in a row?

Because the event has become an intensive gathering for the global community of human-centric personal data proponents, and there’s a lot going on to hear and see!

WHO can participate in MyData2018?

Everybody interested in the future and present of personal data. In 2017 there were over 800 participants to the MyData conference, with various backgrounds: companies 50%, government 20%, NGOs 10%, research & education 10% hackers & activists 10%. The same groups (and more) are expected in 2018.

WHY community-curated programme building?

The MyData movement is becoming more and more a community-driven process on its own, as a “network of networks” of MyData local hubs, and hence also the programme development follows community-curated model.

WHAT topics?

Topic tracks organically grew out of previous conferences (2016, 2017), MyData Declaration goals and MyData Global network action areas. Track teams have been forming since immediately after end of MyData 2017, working towards We’re now happy to announce Call for Proposals to populate those 7 tracks with presentations, panel talks, hands-on sessions, and what have you!

What is the timeline for Call for Proposals?

The Call for Proposals will open on February 7th and remain open until April 5th.

What happens after I’ve proposed?

We use Trello as the tool for managing proposals we receive. When you fill in the submission form your proposal is sent to the programme team and becomes visible to others who have submitted ideas. You can also join the Trello (contact) board so that you can refine your proposal after submission based on the questions and ideas from others. You can submit a first draft quickly and come back later bearing in mind that the deadline for the final submissions is 5th April 2018.

What kinds of passes are available?

For businesses: conference pass (3 days), one day pass (1 day)

For nonprofits: conference pass (3 days), one day pass (1 day)

Can I get a pass for only two of the conference days?

We currently do not provide such tickets. We recommend buying either two one-day passes or a full conference pass.

Who counts as ‘nonprofit’?

Students and academics, representatives of the public sector, NGOs and other civil society groups. Early-phase startups can be considered for this category as well. To be considered ‘nonprofit’ please contact us at hello@mydata.org and we will review your case.

What are the prices for the different passes? 

Are there free or discount passes available?

We offer Early Bird passes at a discount of 25% off from Feb 7 until June 23. We also offer the opportunity to volunteer for MyData 2018 before and/or during the event. Active volunteers will receive a complimentary conference pass. For information on how you can volunteer and join the #MyDataCrew please contact us.

MyData founding members, representatives of active local hubs and programme team members are entitled for a discount pass. Please get in contact via hello@mydata.org to get more information.

How can I request a press pass?

Please accredit on our press pages.

Can I pay by invoice?

Yes, though please note that an invoicing fee of 35 EUR will be added. In order to pay for your conference pass(es) by invoice please fill out this form.

Can I buy multiple passes for my organisation?

Yes, you can multiple the conference passes in our online shop and buy them in bulk.

Didn’t receive a ticket after buying your conference pass?

Don’t worry, your virtual receipt that was sent to you automatically after buying functions as your ticket. Less is more!

Your payment didn’t go through?

We’re sorry to hear this. Please get in touch with Holvi support and hello@mydata.org to check this matter.

How can I request a refund for my pass?

All types of passes are non-refundable, but they are transferable. Also, it is possible to give your conference pass to another person. See below for how you can change the ticket holder.

How can I transfer my pass to a different person?

You can request a transfer of your conference pass to another person by filling in the ticket transfer form. Please note that ticket transfers must be requested at the latest on 11 August.

What’s the Pass holders’ mailing list?

All pass holders will be asked if their email address can be added to a very low volume mailing list for the purposes of communicating important conference news only.

How will my personal data be handled?
